Going Mobile

Keep>Going First Aid

The goal was to conceptualize and prototype a mobile app related to Keep>Going First Aid’s mission and users.

CASE STUDY SNAPSHOT

Problem

Keep>Going First Aid lacks a dedicated mobile app to complement its existing presence. While their website offers essential first aid supplies, it misses the opportunity to leverage mobile app capabilities for improved customer engagement and accessibility.

Solution

Design a mobile app that aligns with Keep>Going First Aid’s mission by providing a user-friendly platform featuring a guided learning path, a digital first aid handbook, offline accessibility, and a community forum to foster connection among users. These features will enhance user engagement, improve access to critical resources, and empower parents to confidently manage first aid situations, even in challenging circumstances.

Discover

To take the first steps, I focused on learning everything I could about the client, Keep>Going First Aid. I began by studying their latest comprehensive brand guidelines, which provided valuable insights into the company's profile and their ideal user.

Getting to know the client

Following the initial meeting, I created a detailed written proposal outlining my decisions and ideas for a successful project. In this stage, I focused on defining overall goals, outlining the process, and setting expectations for deliverables and timelines.

This demonstrated my ability to think through and plan for an advanced design project. The client was very pleased with the proposal and gave me the green light to proceed.

Research Summary

Using the '6 Thinking Hats' method, I reinforced the company's mission and position, recognizing that while parents are the ideal users, the ultimate goal is to benefit their children. This inspired the concept of a learning app to teach parents how to effectively use their family's first aid kit. Through the 'How Might We' method, I proposed questions centered on aiding users, sparking ideas such as offline access to critical resources and fostering a sense of community among users. Finally, the 'Now Wow How' method helped me focus on achievable goals, setting aside less feasible ideas for future development while prioritizing what could be accomplished within the allotted time.

Wireframes

In this stage of the process, I worked through several steps to create a set of wireframes for my final project. I started with a brainstorming session to organize my ideas and establish a clear direction. Next, I developed a series of paper prototypes to experiment with layouts and refine the structure. Finally, I created wireframes for each screen, beginning with low then moving to high-fidelity based on client and peer feedback. This process allowed me to explore creative solutions while ensuring a solid foundation for the design.

What was the impact?

The product provides a user-friendly, visually cohesive solution that aligned with the client's brand identity and goals. By focusing on the needs of the target audience, the product will likely improved user engagement and accessibility; enhancing their overall experience and fostering trust in the brand.

what inspired the design direction?

My design direction was inspired by the opportunity to align KGFA's offerings with the needs of their customer base. Given the prompts to redesign the website, create branding for a new audience, or develop a concept for a new related app, I chose the app concept. The chance to innovate and explore something new resonated with my aspirations, making this option the most appealing.

How did this influence me as a designer?

The project ignited my passion for UX design, transforming initial uncertainty into motivation. As my first UX project, I quickly realized I couldn't rely solely on my degree program for guidance and needed to seek diverse learning resources.

Were there any challenges?

The biggest obstacle was my limited knowledge of UX jargon and struggling with overly complex explanations in articles and blogs. Understanding and applying research methodologies became an unplanned addition to my timeline. With so much new information to absorb, I had to frequently revisit and refresh my knowledge base to stay on track.

Whats next?

The project introduced me to gamification. While I found the concept fascinating, I recognized it was too complex to implement within my timeline and skill level at the time, especially as I was still mastering tools like Figma. However, I made a note to revisit gamification in the future as my skills evolved.
